Only Eve Could Hear The Bird's Love SongListen. Can you hear it? That little tune in the air, a simple reminder to stop and smell the roses - or perhaps, a clue to the meaning of life itself. Each of us are given little gifts, moments that make us see the people, places and experiences which comprise our world in a whole new way. In Cassandra Barney´s latest limited edition, Eve is experiencing one of those moments. She appears doe-eyed, lost in her own song, as her companions stare at the viewer. It is the beauty of Cassandra´s charming women, combined with this evergreen message, that gently remind us to look and listen to the little moments. (See options...) |

PandoraCassandra Barney evokes the emotions of the viewer through her frank, compelling portraits of the "muses" of our daily lives, with their soft, gentle eloquence and mysterious beauty. Courting Pandora, Barney´s recent show of original paintings, was based on the female archetype of Pandora who, according to legend, could not resist opening a mysterious box which unleashed evil on earth (but also contained "hope"). "I don´t feel that Pandora was tricked into, or was naively curious about opening that box," says Barney. "Remember, she was the culmination of all the gods´ gifts to man and not just some passive beauty. I think she intentionally brought the balance of good and evil into the world. The elusive butterflies that flutter about Pandora, Etta and Ramona whisper of the women´s passions, hopes and fears, inviting you into their intimate reflections. Displayed on their own, or combined with Cassandra´s other works, these distinctive gems capture the simple eloquence of life´s many moods. (See options...) |

Paris AngelI had my daughter Paris stand in this dress and twirl as I took rapid shots of her. This was the perfect pose for the painting because I wanted to capture free motion, which gives the angel a sense of freedom and a love of life, sort of a childish innocence. (See options...) |

Pocket Watch“Sometimes I will get an idea for a painting and it turns into something else once my models are posing,” artist Morgan Weistling says of Pocket Watch.“This painting was originally going to be titled Tea for Grandpa and my daughter Brittany was suppose to be handing her Grandpa a cup of tea.Well, Grandpa had a shiny pocket watch Brittany had never seen one before. During a break in the studio, this scene took place and it rang with the sweet innocence of a curious child. I like to strive for truthfulness such as this in my paintings. That´s when I connect to the painting and my hope is that it will reach the viewer, too.” It is this “striving for truthfulness” in the craft of painting and narrative that touches the viewer’s heart and sets Weistling’s work apart from others. Poofy Guy On A Short LeashIn the fantastic world of James Christensen, a “poofy guy” is recognizable by the inordinate layers of clothing he wears, symbolizing a touch of self-importance as well as the accumulated baggage of a lifetime. This light and airy piece just may suggest marriage, as James asks us to consider the luck we “poofy guys” have in being cared for by a responsible woman.“Thank heavens guys like us have some one holding onto us, otherwise, we’d just spin off into the atmosphere and pop!” (See options...) |

Portrait With Red Berries"By divine accident, this splendid impression of beauty, fleeting and frail, shall forever remain the embodiment of grace." –Anonymous There are times when a brief passing moment can hold a special place in our subconscious. Seeing someone for the first time can be such an occasion. And although the view may have lasted only an instant, our mind has a way of filling in what the eye didn’t see, creating an impression that can linger forever... (See options...) |

Presence“While I worked on this painting, I often thought about paradise,” says artist Cassandra Barney. “I was thinking about the times in my life when I have felt absolute contentment, a beautiful feeling that has come at times when I’ve lost myself in the care of others. The figure in the painting holds a strawberry, which has many associations including fertility, chastity, heaven, holy trinity, humility, paradise and purity. Fruit is considered to be evidence of God’s kindness and a symbol of his Providence. Fruit is also a symbol of good luck and several kinds of fruit frame the top of the painting. The lambs are in the care of this ever-vigilant shepherdess and she is in a state of bliss.” (See options...) |
