The Prophet Joseph and his brother Hyrum were taken prisoner in Far West and put in a wagon bound for Liberty Jail. A messenger told the Prophet Joseph’s mother, Lucy Mack, that if she wanted to see her sons alive she should come immediately to the wagon.
The crowd was so thick around the wagon that Lucy could not get through. She appealed to the crowd, "I am the mother of the Prophet – is there not a gentleman here, who will assist me to that wagon, that I may take a last look at my children, and speak to them once more before I die?"<. . .
